How Much Water Do You Need Per Day ? A Simple Formula
Many people don’t realise how many health problems may be indirectly caused by not drinking adequate fresh water. Hopefully this article will help you to understand more about how important good quality water is for your health, along with how much water your body really needs per day.
The majority of the human body is made up of water, and your immune system works at it’s most efficient when you are drinking enough water. It really is that simple!
This is because we have an electrical body, our body is electrically charged. This electrical charge is necessary for our internal organs and bodily systems to function. Your body needs the right level of electrical charge, to assist all internal organs and bodily systems to function at their best.
Just like the battery in your car needs sufficient water to produce electricity, your body needs sufficient water in all of your cells so your internal organs and your body’s internal systems can do the jobs they are meant to, including your immune system.
Why Dehydration is So Dangerous
You may be surprised to discover that feeling thirsty isn’t the first sign of dehydration. By the time you start to feel thirsty, your body’s cells are already depleted of water. If this depletion continues for an extended time, you will eventually experience further symptoms including lethargy, brain fog, dizziness and lack of strength. If dehydration continues for too long, damage will eventually occur to your body, as your organs and bodily systems cannot function indefinitely without adequate water.
Just like the warning light on the dashboard of your car which appears if your car’s electrical system isn’t functioning correctly, feeling thirsty is your body’s warning sign to top-up before your water level becomes dangerously low.
It is therefore essential that you know how much fresh natural water you should be drinking each day to keep your body at its best health.
The Formula
The average daily water need for each adult is 8 glasses of water per day. If you would like to calculate the exact amount for your body weight, you can follow this simple formula:
The first thing you need to do is to calculate your body weight in pounds, as this formula came to me in pounds. This will give your daily water need when your heart is at a resting rate. For example sitting down, walking around the house, and doing general things throughout the day which are not going to affect your resting heart rate.
The formula is as follows:
Body Weight in pounds divided by 2 equals the number of ounces of water you need to drink per day at your resting heart rate.
So if your weight is 150 pounds, you would need 75 ounces of water per day. If you prefer to work in metric, then convert this result to metric, 150 pounds is 75 kilograms, 75 ounces is 2.216 grams, you would need 2126 millilitres. If your body weight is 75 kilograms, you would need a minimum of 2.126 litres of water per day to maintain a healthy level of hydration.
One glass = 250mls or 2 litres, for a 75 kg person the daily resting water need is just over 8 glasses.
Where to Find the Best Water?
It is very important for your health, that the water you drink is free from environmental pollutants. Therefore the best water to drink by far is pure, fresh ground water from a mountain spring which has been naturally filtered by the earth. Of course we don’t all have the luxury of living in the mountains, or having a mountain hideaway.
It’s much easier for many people to install a rainwater tank. If this is not possible for you, there are various water purifying systems commercially available for installation in your home.
To find out what type of water purification system you should be seeking, the first thing to do is have your water tested to find out what contaminants you need to filter out, including fluoride. This test will tell you how much of each contaminant is found in your tap water. The test is inexpensive, and the laboratory will usually send someone out to collect the water sample from your kitchen tap.
If you do your research in the right places (armed with your water test results) – you will know exactly what needs to be removed from your water and you therefore be fully informed and better able to find the best water purification system for your needs.
